E-commerce
Meristem employs a system that allows it get any E-commerce site up and running in days, not weeks. Bona fide, all the bells and whistles E-commerce up in days.
The system we use is FoxyCart. It integrates seamlessly with MODx. It's a shopping cart that is completely independent from the website. It understands HTML perfect. All of that means Meristem can get an E-commerce website functioning in days, customizing how it looks and feels in a few hours rather than weeks and months.
There are a lot of E-commerce CMSs out there that are stuck in the box, meaning changing the way they look and feel will cost you a lot of time (and money). It's very frustrating for a designer or developer to customize something that by default was made not to be customizable. Why bother? Because the client wants it.
If you looked at the link above, did you notice this?
Problems - front end of OSCommerce is not developed using CSS, therefore skinning and reskinning is a bit of a nightmare
Or how about this one:
Security issues is the single issue that you can ill afford to deal with in E-commerce.often taking quite a long time to release fixes for important issues such as security.
Or how about this contradiction:
easy-to-use cart, although many customers say that its learning curve is too difficult for beginners
The point: don't believe the hype on any of these CMS apps. They all have their flaws, and they all are trying to behave like Amazon. That's good and great but one cannot hope to replicate the efforts of hundreds of programmers using just a few non-paid programmers.
FoxyCart was born out of this frustration. It is simply the best way to do E-commerce. Best of all FoxyCart understands HTML, which means that you can sell anything on your MODx website without Meristem having to hack any code and thereby compromising security.
Meristem can get an E-commerce site up in DAYS, have it customized to look and feel in HOURS, and set up the E-commerce part in MINUTES - what are you waiting for?
You might be waiting for the bottleneck: payment gateway/merchant account. They always take a minimum of 5 business days to process their applications, with some taking twice that.
Web Standards
Creating a standards-based website takes a extra time, yet it saves you time in the future. How? It means that changes don't have to be done to your content, just your design.
